What is a Gift Economy?
Perhaps the best definition of the gift economy is one written by Dr. Aumatma Shah, founder of the Karma Clinic in Berkeley, CA. In her words, the "gift economy," represents a shift from consumption to contribution, transaction to trust, scarcity to abundance and isolation to community. At The Gifting Tree we offer a variety of holistic health modalities "in the gift." This means each of our practitioners offer their specialty service(s) in the spirit of generosity. Recipients of services are asked to feel into how best to reciprocate the gift – be it another service they can offer in return, an object that may be of use to the practitioner or the center, a monetary donation to the practitioner or clinic, or by paying the gift forward out into the world in some other way.
